Medicare is an umbrella term with different parts that cover various aspects of your healthcare needs.
Here’s a quick breakdown to get you started:-
This is the traditional government-run Medicare program.
Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care (short-term rehab), hospice care, and some other health services.
Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers outpatient services (doctor visits, preventive care, and screenings), some medical supplies, and ambulatory services (emergency room visits not requiring hospitalization).
Here’s the key thing to remember: Original Medicare typically requires you to pay deductibles and coinsurance. There’s also no cap on out-of-pocket expenses, so the total cost you pay each year can vary.
Medicare Part C (Advantage Plans): These are all-in-one plans offered by private insurance companies that are approved by Medicare. They combine the coverage of Parts A and B (and sometimes Part D – prescription drugs) into a single plan.
Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Since Medicare Parts A & B don’t generally cover prescription medications, having Part D helps with the costs associated with your prescriptions.
Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t worry! We have a dedicated guide explaining each of the Medicare Parts.
